Värviregistreerimine, also known as color registration, is a critical process in printing and color reproduction. It refers to the alignment of multiple ink colors, typically cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK), on a substrate such as paper or film. Achieving accurate color registration is essential for producing sharp, clear images and text without unwanted color fringes or misalignments.

The process involves ensuring that each color plate or digital layer is positioned precisely over the others. Imperfect registration can lead to visual defects, where the edges of different colored elements appear blurred or shifted. This can manifest as red, green, or blue halos around objects, depending on which color plates are misaligned. In offset printing, this is managed through precise mechanical adjustments of the printing press. For digital printing and graphics, it is a matter of accurate file preparation and RIP (Raster Image Processor) settings.

Modern printing presses and digital workflows incorporate sophisticated systems to monitor and correct registration in real-time. These systems often use special registration marks printed on the edge of the sheet or image area to detect deviations. Automated feedback loops then adjust the position of the printing units or digital heads to maintain alignment. Thorough pre-press checks and calibration are also crucial steps to prevent registration errors. Poor color registration can significantly degrade the quality of printed materials, impacting the aesthetic appeal and readability of publications, packaging, and other printed items.
