Värvijuhtimuse, often translated as color management, is a set of tools and processes used to ensure that the colors seen on different devices are consistent and accurate. It addresses the challenge that different devices, such as computer monitors, printers, and scanners, interpret and reproduce colors in their own unique ways. Without proper color management, the colors of an image on a screen might appear drastically different when printed, or an image edited on one computer might look different on another.

The core of color management involves using color profiles. A color profile is a file that describes the color characteristics of a specific device. For example, a monitor profile defines how that monitor displays colors, and a printer profile defines how that printer reproduces colors with a particular set of inks and paper. By using these profiles, software can translate colors from one device's space to another, aiming to achieve a predictable and consistent color output across various media.

Key components of color management include color spaces (like sRGB, Adobe RGB, CMYK), profiles (ICC profiles are a common standard), and rendering intents. Rendering intents determine how colors that cannot be reproduced by the destination device are converted. The goal of color management is to create a predictable and controllable color workflow, which is crucial for professionals in fields such as graphic design, photography, printing, and digital imaging where color accuracy is paramount. Implementing effective color management helps to minimize color shifts, reduce costly errors, and ensure that the final output accurately reflects the intended design.
