Värinkestävyys refers to the ability of a colored material to retain its original color when exposed to various external factors. These factors can include light, washing, rubbing, or chemical agents. The concept is particularly relevant in industries such as textiles, printing, paints, and plastics, where the longevity and appearance of color are crucial.

Different types of colorfastness are assessed to evaluate a material's resistance. Lightfastness, for example, measures how well a color withstands fading when exposed to sunlight or artificial light. Washfastness indicates how well the color resists bleeding or fading during laundering. Rubbing fastness, also known as crocking, tests the color's tendency to transfer to other surfaces through friction. Other forms include perspiration fastness and resistance to specific chemicals like chlorine.
