Vuohon

Vuohon is a Finnish term that translates to "moose" in English. The moose (Alces alces) is the largest species in the deer family Cervidae and is native to the northern regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. It is characterized by its impressive size, with males (bulls) weighing up to 700 kilograms (1,540 pounds) and measuring about 2.1 meters (6.9 feet) at the shoulder. Females (cows) are generally smaller.

The moose has a distinctive appearance, with long legs, a broad, overhanging snout, and a dewlap or "bell" under the throat. Males develop large, palmated antlers during the breeding season, which can span up to 2.4 meters (7.9 feet). Moose are primarily browsers, feeding on leaves, twigs, aquatic plants, and bark.

Adapted to cold climates, moose are excellent swimmers and can dive to forage underwater vegetation. Their dense fur provides insulation against harsh winter conditions, while their large nasal cavities warm incoming air.

Moose play a crucial role in their ecosystems, influencing vegetation dynamics and serving as prey for predators such as wolves and bears. They are also important for local cultures, especially in Finland, where they are a symbol of wilderness and natural heritage.
