Viisaushammas

Viisaushammas, also known as the third molar, is the last tooth to erupt in the mouth, typically appearing between the ages of 17 and 25. These teeth are located at the very back of the jaw, one in each quadrant. The term "wisdom" refers to the late age at which they emerge, coinciding with the age of maturity.

In many individuals, there isn't enough space in the jaw for these teeth to erupt properly. This can lead to impaction, where the tooth is unable to break through the gum or emerge in the correct position. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, infection, damage to adjacent teeth, and the formation of cysts. Due to these potential complications, it is common for wisdom teeth to be surgically removed, especially if they are causing or are likely to cause problems.

The anatomy and number of wisdom teeth can vary. Some people may develop all four, while others may have fewer, or none at all. The development of wisdom teeth is a natural biological process, but their presence often presents challenges in modern dentistry. Regular dental check-ups are important to monitor the development and positioning of wisdom teeth and to address any issues that may arise.
