Verisuonitapahtuma
Verisuonitapahtuma is a Finnish term that translates to "vascular event" or "cerebrovascular event" in English. It refers to a sudden medical condition affecting the blood vessels, most commonly those supplying the brain. The most well-known types of verisuonitapahtuma are stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA). A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a blockage (ischemic stroke) or by bleeding (hemorrhagic stroke), leading to the death of brain cells. A TIA, often called a mini-stroke, is similar to a stroke but the blockage is temporary, and symptoms usually resolve within minutes or hours without permanent damage.
