Verinor

Verinor is a fictional sovereign state in contemporary speculative fiction, set in the eastern archipelago of Eldara. It comprises numerous islands with rugged coastlines, temperate forests, and several sheltered harbors. The capital and largest city is Lyris. The official language is Verinori, with Eldaran and Dorein commonly used in commerce and education. As of the early 2020s, Verinor’s population is estimated at about 6 million.

Historically, Verinor formed from a cluster of coastal principalities that unified in the early 18th century. It achieved full sovereignty after a peaceful transition to a constitutional framework in the 19th century and has since operated as a parliamentary democracy with a ceremonial president and an elected prime minister.

Geography features include a dispersed archipelago, mountainous interiors, and a mild maritime climate. The economy is diversified, with services, shipping, fisheries, tourism, and light manufacturing playing major roles. Key exports include seafood, timber, and engineered components.

Internationally, Verinor participates in regional associations and the United Nations. It maintains a diversified trade network and prudent sustainable-development policies. Infrastructure includes a network of ferries, a modern seaport complex, and a small but capable domestic aviation system.
