Verinori

Verinori is a town and commune in the Verinori Valley, in the northern portion of Valoria's Sileia Province. The municipality covers about 42 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 8,400 in 2021. The town sits along the Verin River, which flows southwest toward the Lora River, and lies within a landscape of rolling hills and terraced fields.

Name and etymology: The toponym Verinori combines the river name Verin with the suffix -ori, from the ancient Sileian language, indicating a settlement by the river mouth.

History: Verinori was founded in the 12th century by agrarian communities and grew as a regional market town. Fortifications were constructed in the 14th century, and the town became part of the Valorian state during the 19th century reforms. The arrival of rail transport in the late 19th century spurred growth, and modern municipal administration was established in 1861.

Economy and culture: The local economy relies on agriculture—grapes, olives, and cereals—alongside small-scale manufacturing and wine production from nearby vineyards. Craft traditions include pottery and textile work. Verinori hosts an annual harvest festival, a medieval theatre event, and a weekly market that draws residents from surrounding communities.

Administration and infrastructure: Verinori is governed by a municipal council headed by a mayor, and it forms part of the Valorian regional government area. Transport links include a regional road network and Verinori railway station on the Valleia line, providing connections to larger urban centers.
