Varatun is a fictional coastal city-state used in worldbuilding and speculative fiction. It sits on a natural harbor along the southern shore of the continent of Elaron, and functions as a commercial and cultural hub.

The name Varatun derives from the Varan language, in which vara means harbor and tun denotes fortress or hill, a combination that reflects the city's fortified port identity.

Varatun occupies a crescent bay, with limestone cliffs, a sheltered harbor, and an inland chain of low hills. Its climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and dry summers, conducive to year-round trade and access.

Varatun traces its founding to a loose alliance of fishing clans in the 9th century. It grew into a trade hub during the medieval era, expanding through harbor diplomacy and guilds. It established a constitutional council in the early modern period and has remained relatively stable through regional upheavals.
