VOYin

VOYin is a conceptual open-standard protocol and software framework designed to standardize bidirectional communication between autonomous agents and human operators across virtual, robotic, and mixed-reality environments. The name VOYin is commonly interpreted as Voyager Interface Network, though its use remains primarily theoretical rather than codified in an official standard.

Origin and scope: The term VOYin arose in early- to mid-2020s discussions about interoperability among AI agents, drones, and simulation platforms. It is not an officially ratified standard; several research groups have proposed compatible data models and reference implementations to explore how cross-system coordination might work.

Architecture and features: At a high level VOYin envisions a modular stack with a core protocol layer (VCP) for message exchange, a data-model layer (VMS) describing events, commands, and telemetry, and a security layer for authentication and authorization. It favors asynchronous publish/subscribe messaging and request/response patterns, supports streaming of telemetry, command sequencing, and audit logging, and allows pluggable transport layers such as WebSocket, TLS-secured HTTP, or DDS-like transports.
