VARKkerfið is the Icelandic term for the VARK learning style model. VARK is an acronym representing four modalities of learning: Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic. This model, developed by Neil Fleming, suggests that individuals have a preferred learning style that influences how they best absorb and process information.

Visual learners prefer to see information, often benefiting from diagrams, charts, and demonstrations. Aural learners, also known as auditory learners, learn best by hearing information, such as through lectures, discussions, and audio recordings. Read/Write learners engage with material through text, preferring to read written explanations and take notes. Kinesthetic learners learn by doing and experiencing, often involving physical activity, hands-on experiments, and real-world application.

The VARK model is a self-assessment tool that helps individuals identify their dominant learning preferences. Understanding one's VARK profile can empower students to adopt study strategies that align with their preferred modalities, potentially improving comprehension and retention.
