Urticariaan

Urticariaan is a term sometimes used informally to refer to urticaria, also commonly known as hives. Urticaria is a skin condition characterized by the sudden appearance of raised, itchy welts on the skin. These welts, also called wheals, can vary in size and shape and often appear suddenly. The itching associated with urticaria can be intense.

The exact cause of urticaria can be varied. In many cases, it is triggered by an allergic reaction to certain foods, medications, insect bites, or other allergens. Non-allergic triggers can include physical factors like pressure, heat, cold, or sunlight, as well as stress or infections. Urticaria can be classified as acute, meaning it lasts for less than six weeks, or chronic, persisting for more than six weeks. Chronic urticaria can be idiopathic, meaning the cause cannot be identified.

Diagnosis of urticaria typically involves a medical history and physical examination. In some instances, allergy testing may be performed to identify potential triggers. Treatment for urticaria often involves antihistamines to relieve itching and reduce swelling. In more severe or persistent cases, other medications may be prescribed. Avoiding known triggers is also a key part of management. Urticaria is generally not a serious condition, although chronic urticaria can significantly impact a person's quality of life due to persistent itching and discomfort.
