Unitaristen

Unitaristen is a term used to describe a diverse group of Christian denominations and theological movements that emphasize the unity of God and the absolute oneness of God. This stands in contrast to the doctrine of the Trinity, which posits God as three co-equal persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Unitaristen believe that Jesus was a human being, possibly a prophet or the Messiah, but not divine in the same sense as God the Father.

Historically, Unitarian thought can be traced back to early Christian debates and gained significant traction during the Protestant Reformation. Key figures and movements associated with Unitarianism include the Polish Brethren and the Transylvanian Unitarians. In the United States and the United Kingdom, Unitarian churches developed as distinct denominations, often emphasizing reason, conscience, and individual spiritual experience alongside their theological beliefs.

While theological Unitarianism is central, many Unitarian congregations and organizations today have broadened their focus. They often embrace a wide range of religious and non-religious beliefs, welcoming people of all faiths and no faith. Core values frequently include intellectual inquiry, social justice, tolerance, and the pursuit of personal spiritual growth. The Universalist tradition, which emphasizes the universal salvation of all souls, merged with Unitarianism in many regions to form Unitarian Universalism, a prominent and inclusive religious movement.
