Udvarló

Udvarló is a hat type originating from Hungary and surrounding regions. Typically made of felt or wool, it is a tall, cylindrical hat usually reserved for formal occasions such as traditional clothing in men's formal wear.

The typical shape of the udvarló includes a high, slightly curved crown with a narrow brim. In many cases, the crown of the hat features three or four fingers of height, although variations do exist. The brim of the hat most often measures between six and seven fingers in width, once more showcasing a relatively narrower stature compared to other styles of men's hats. Fur trim is occasionally found at the crown.

Traditionally, the udvarló features urban, practical styles most closely tied to Hungarian men. Centre to the lower-middle class, its widespread use occurred primarily within urban working-class communities during the 19th and early 20th centuries. When disconnected from social status, this hat reflects traditional Hungarian craft and the importance of upright, proper attire. Historically, women wore the udvarló in rare instances but men composed the majority of its wearers.
