UIPM

UIPM (Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne) is the international federation that governs modern pentathlon, the multi-discipline sport comprising fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, and a final combined running and shooting phase known as the laser-run. The federation was established in 1948 and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the sport’s governing body, responsible for global governance, competition rules, and development of the sport through its national member federations.

The UIPM oversees international competition and rankings, designs competition formats, and promotes the sport worldwide. It sanctions a calendar of events including the World Championships, the World Cup series, and continental championships, as well as youth and junior championships. Olympic qualification is administered through UIPM events and rankings in the years leading to the Games.

Governance and structure: The federation is governed by an executive board and president, with technical and development commissions, supported by a network of national federations. It also coordinates anti-doping and safety policies in collaboration with international bodies, and promotes sport for education and youth development.

Impact and reach: UIPM supports a broad global ecosystem of clubs, coaches, and athletes across five continents, and works to raise standards of sport integrity, accessibility, and performance while adapting competition formats to improve safety and spectator appeal.
