Türklinken

Türklinken are door handles designed to operate a door latch or lock. They are mounted on interior or exterior doors and are a common component of modern door hardware. The term Türklinke is German and translates to door handle in English; Turkish or other languages may use different terms for similar hardware.

Most Türklinken consist of a handle or lever that rotates or presses to retract a latch inside the door. The mechanism is connected to a spindle that passes through the door and interacts with a latch bolt or a locking mechanism. Exterior doors may include a key-operated lock or a privacy lock for interior doors. Türklinken are often paired with rosettes, escutcheons, or plates that cover the mounting screws and protect the latch mechanism.

Types and designs vary widely. The two common forms are lever handles and round or knurled knobs. Lever handles are often preferred for accessibility because they require less grip strength to operate. There are also pull handles, push plates, and minimalist lever designs for contemporary interiors. Finishes and materials range from brass, stainless steel, and zinc alloy to aluminum, with finishes such as polished brass, satin chrome, brushed nickel, and black or antique patina.

Installation and standards: Türklinken are installed through the door with screws and are aligned with a latch or mortise lock. A typical European backset is 60 or 70 millimeters, and suitability for left- or right-handed doors should be considered. Compatibility with existing locks and door thickness is important.

Maintenance: Regular cleaning with mild soap and water and periodic lubrication of moving parts help prevent stiffness and wear. Worn components such as rosettes or gaskets may require replacement to maintain security and function.
