Tõhususnõuded

Scope and application vary by sector. They can apply to energy-using products such as household appliances, electronics and lighting; transport, including vehicle fuel efficiency; buildings, for example in thermal performance and insulation; and industrial processes, where energy intensity or resource use is regulated. Tõhususnõuded are often expressed through measurable metrics and standardized testing criteria to enable comparison and verification.

Key elements typically include defined performance metrics (such as energy consumption per unit, efficiency ratios, or thermal transmittance), approved testing methods, conformity assessment procedures, and sometimes labeling or certification to demonstrate compliance. The requirements are commonly harmonized with international or European standards and are updated periodically to keep pace with technological advances.

Implementation generally involves national or regional authorities establishing threshold values, while manufacturers and suppliers must verify compliance, provide technical documentation, and undergo testing or third-party assessment. Non-compliance can lead to penalties, market access restrictions, or mandatory product recalls. The overarching aim of tõhususnõuded is to promote market-wide efficiency, reduce operating costs, conserve resources, and minimize environmental impacts while ensuring consumer protection and fair competition.
