Täckfog

Täckfog, a Swedish term translating to "cover joint" or "concealed joint," refers to a specific method of joining or finishing materials, particularly in construction and woodworking. The defining characteristic of a täckfog is that the joint itself is hidden or obscured by a subsequent element, making the final appearance seamless. This contrasts with exposed joints where the connection point is intentionally visible.

In practical applications, täckfog is often employed to achieve a clean aesthetic. For instance, in cabinetry, a panel might be attached to a frame using screws or nails that are later covered by a decorative molding or trim. Similarly, in flooring, expansion gaps might be concealed by baseboards or quarter-round molding. The purpose is to hide the mechanical fasteners or the necessary spacing between materials, presenting an uninterrupted surface.
