Typ3

Typ3, commonly written as TYPO3, is a free and open-source content management system used to build and manage websites and intranets. It is written in PHP and developed by a global community under the TYPO3 Association. The project aims to provide an enterprise-ready CMS with a robust feature set and long-term stability.

TYPO3 began in the late 1990s as an open-source project led by Kasper Skårhøj and has grown into one of the most widely used CMS platforms in Europe. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License and maintained through regular releases, including long-term support versions.

The core is modular and extensible via extensions from the TYPO3 Extension Repository. It provides a content-centric backend for creating pages and content elements, while TypoScript provides configuration and templating. Fluid is the default templating engine. TYPO3 supports multi-language sites, granular user permissions, versioning, editorial workflows, and caching for performance. It runs on common web stacks such as Linux with Apache or Nginx, PHP, and databases like MySQL or MariaDB; Composer can be used for managing dependencies.

TYPO3 is used by organizations ranging from small businesses to governments and universities, especially in Europe. The TYPO3 Association oversees development and governance, while a large global community contributes extensions, documentation, and localizations. Regular conferences and regional events help coordinate support and training.
