Tyningsregimer are structured sets of protocols designed to regulate the amount and pattern of muscular tension during activity. In Swedish-language sports science and physiotherapy literature, the term describes the prescribed tension profile used to elicit adaptations, evaluate function, or manage rehabilitation. A tyningsregim typically specifies parameters such as intensity (percentage of maximal voluntary contraction or target force), duration (hold time or repetition time), frequency (sessions per week) and mode (isometric, concentric, eccentric, or mixed loading).

They can be static (isometric holds), dynamic (concentric or eccentric contractions), or alternating, and may vary in tempo and rest intervals. The choice of regime depends on goals (strength, endurance, hypertrophy, motor control), the tissue involved, and the individual's condition.

Applications include athletic training, rehabilitation after musculoskeletal injuries, occupational ergonomics to reduce injury risk, and research on neuromuscular control and fatigue. In experiments, tyningsregimer allow controlled manipulation of load patterns to study responses such as muscle activation as measured by EMG, force development, and metabolic cost.

Challenges include lack of universal standards, interindividual variability, and safety considerations, especially when high tensions or rapid loading are used.
