Tvärlaminering

Tvärlaminering, often referred to as cross-laminated timber (CLT), is a modern engineered wood product. It is constructed from layers of kiln-dried lumber that are glued together. The key characteristic of tvärlaminering is the orientation of the wood layers. In each layer, the timber is laid in a consistent direction, and successive layers are oriented at a 90-degree angle to the layer beneath. This alternating pattern of grain direction creates a strong, stable, and rigid panel.

The manufacturing process typically involves planing and then bonding the individual timber boards with structural adhesives. These panels can be produced in large dimensions, allowing for efficient construction. Tvärlaminering is known for its high strength-to-weight ratio, making it suitable for a variety of structural applications, including walls, floors, and roofs in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Its use is increasing in the construction industry due to its sustainability, rapid assembly, and potential for prefabrication. The interlocking nature of the perpendicular layers contributes to excellent mechanical properties, including resistance to shear and bending forces.
