Träolja

Träolja is a type of oil finish used to protect and enhance wooden surfaces. It is typically made from natural oils such as linseed oil, tung oil, or soybean oil, often combined with natural resins or solvents to improve penetration and durability. The primary purpose of träolja is to penetrate the wood fibers, providing a barrier against moisture and dirt, and preventing the wood from drying out and cracking.

Unlike varnishes or lacquers which form a film on the surface of the wood, träolja soaks into the material. This creates a natural, matte or satin finish that highlights the wood's grain and texture. The application process usually involves wiping the oil onto the surface, allowing it to penetrate, and then wiping off any excess. This process can be repeated to build up protection and achieve the desired look.

Träolja is commonly used on furniture, flooring, decks, and other wooden objects. It is known for its ability to repair easily; damaged areas can often be re-oiled without needing to sand down the entire surface. The finished product is generally more resistant to wear and tear than untreated wood, and it offers a warm, natural feel. Maintenance involves periodic reapplication of the oil, especially in areas exposed to heavy use or weather. Different types of träolja may offer varying levels of protection and drying times.
