TriClamp

TriClamp, also known as Tri-Clamp or Tri-Clover, is a sanitary piping connection widely used in dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, and other processing industries. It combines two mating flanges, an elastomer gasket, and a clamping device to form a secure, easily disassembled joint suitable for clean-in-place and sterilization.

The basic assembly relies on a gasket seated in a raised flange surface. When the two flanges are aligned and the clamp surrounds the joint, the clamp applies uniform pressure to compress the gasket, creating a leak-tight seal. The design allows rapid disassembly for routine cleaning, inspection, or replacement of components without extensive tools.

Standards and sizes for TriClamp fittings are anchored in sanitary practice. Common references include the 3A Sanitary Standard and DIN 32676, with compatibility determined by flange size and gasket type. Sizes are typically expressed in nominal pipe size (NPS) or inches, commonly from about 1/2 inch up to 4 inches or larger in specialty applications. Materials are usually stainless steel (commonly grade 304 or 316), and gaskets are selected from EPDM, silicone, or fluorocarbon (FKM) to match the chemical and thermal requirements of the process.

Clamps and accompanying hardware are designed for hygienic use, easy handling, and reliable sealing. While the term TriClamp often refers to the entire coupling system, individual components may be branded differently by manufacturers. The system’s main advantages are ease of assembly and disassembly, cleanability, and suitability for CIP/SIP processes, balanced against the need for correct component matching to ensure a proper seal.
