Tröjor

Tröjor is the plural form of the Swedish word tröja, a garment worn on the upper body that is typically knitted or woven and designed to provide warmth or serve as a fashion item. In everyday use, tröjor can refer to sweaters, pullovers, cardigans, hoodies and similar knit tops. They are worn by people of all ages and can vary widely in style, weight, and fit.

Common variants include pullovertröjor, which are worn over the head and do not open at the front; cardigans, which have a front opening with buttons or a zipper; and hoodies, which feature a hood and are often made of fleece or soft knit. Other common types include polo or crew-neck tröjor, V-neck and turtleneck (polotröja) styles, and light cardigan-knit tops intended for layering. Tröjor may be made from wool, cotton, synthetic fibers such as acrylic or polyester, or blends, and they come in a range of weights from thin summer knits to thick winter knits.

Materials and care vary by fiber. Wool provides warmth and elasticity but often requires gentle washing or dry cleaning and careful drying to maintain shape. Cotton is breathable and easy to care for, while synthetics add durability and moisture management. Care instructions typically include washing at appropriate temperatures, avoiding excessive heat, and laying flat to dry for knit items to prevent stretching. Sustainable and ethical production practices are increasingly emphasized in the manufacture of tröjor, including responsible sourcing of fibers and reduced environmental impact in dyeing and finishing.
