Tríglýseríð

Tríglýseríð are the main type of fat found in the body and in food. They are also called triglycerides. They are composed of a glycerol molecule and three fatty acid chains. When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn't need to use right away into triglycerides. These triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals. If you regularly eat more calories than you burn, you may have high triglycerides.

Triglycerides are a type of lipid. They serve as a way for the body to store energy. When you consume more energy than your body needs, the excess is converted into triglycerides and stored in adipose tissue. During periods of fasting or increased energy demand, such as between meals or during exercise, hormones stimulate the breakdown of stored triglycerides to release fatty acids and glycerol, which can then be used for energy.

High levels of triglycerides in the blood, known as hypertriglyceridemia, can be a risk factor for certain health conditions, including heart disease and pancreatitis. Factors contributing to high triglyceride levels include diet, particularly consumption of high-carbohydrate and high-fat foods, lack of physical activity, obesity, and certain medical conditions like diabetes and hypothyroidism. Genetics can also play a role. Managing triglyceride levels often involves lifestyle changes such as adopting a healthy diet, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and limiting alcohol intake. In some cases, medication may also be prescribed.
