Torxpääruuvi

Torxpääruuvi, also known as a Torx screw or star drive screw, is a type of screw fastener characterized by a six-pointed star-shaped recess in the head. This recess is designed to accept a corresponding Torx screwdriver bit. The design was invented by Camcar Textron in 1967. The name "Torx" is a registered trademark.

The primary advantage of the Torx drive system over traditional slotted or Phillips head screws is its superior torque transmission. The six-point contact allows for higher torque to be applied without the driver camming out, which is a common problem with Phillips head screws where the driver can slip out of the recess. This reduced cam-out minimizes damage to both the fastener head and the tool, and also improves worker safety by preventing sudden slips.

Torx screws are widely used in various industries, including automotive, electronics, and construction, due to their reliability and efficiency. They are often found in applications where high torque is required or where there is a need to prevent accidental disassembly. The design also offers improved resistance to tampering, as specialized Torx bits are required for removal. Variations of the Torx system exist, such as Torx Plus, which offers even greater torque capabilities and reduced wear.
