Tommligaments

Tommligaments are a type of ligament found in the human body, specifically in the ankle joint. They are named after the Danish anatomist Thomas Bartholin, who first described them in the 17th century. The tommligaments are a pair of fibrous bands that connect the medial malleolus (the inner part of the lower leg bone) to the talus (the ankle bone). Their primary function is to stabilize the ankle joint, particularly during inversion and eversion movements. The tommligaments are part of the lateral ligaments of the ankle, which also include the calcaneofibular ligament and the posterior talofibular ligament.

The tommligaments are typically not visible on standard X-rays or MRI scans, making them difficult to diagnose when injured. Symptoms of a tommligament injury may include pain, swelling, and difficulty with ankle movements.
