In this fictional framework, tolmuteste describes a protocol that measures the tendency of dry particulates to accumulate on, and be removed from, material surfaces under controlled environmental conditions.

A typical tolmuteste protocol involves preparing test coupons, generating a calibrated dust aerosol, and exposing specimens in an environmental chamber at set temperature and humidity. Over defined exposure cycles, deposition is quantified using gravimetric analysis, optical or electron microscopy, and real-time particle counting.
