A tolker is a specialized type of heavy machinery used primarily in construction, mining, and earthmoving operations. These robust vehicles are designed to transport large quantities of loose materials such as soil, sand, gravel, and debris across job sites. Unlike standard dump trucks, tolkers feature a unique design with a low-profile dump bed that sits closer to the ground, making them particularly effective for loading and unloading operations in confined spaces.

The term "tolker" is most commonly used in Scandinavian countries and parts of Northern Europe, where these machines are extensively employed in infrastructure projects. The name derives from the Swedish word "tolk," meaning "to carry" or "to transport." These vehicles typically feature all-wheel drive capabilities and are built to handle demanding terrain conditions.

Tolker models vary in size and capacity, with smaller units capable of carrying 10-15 tons of material and larger industrial versions handling 30-40 tons or more. The dump mechanism usually operates through hydraulic systems that can tilt the entire bed or use a pusher plate to discharge materials. Most modern tolkers are equipped with advanced safety features including rollover protection systems, warning lights, and reinforced cabin structures.

These machines are particularly valuable in road construction, where they transport excavated material from trenches and foundations. They are also commonly used in quarry operations, landfills, and large-scale landscaping projects.
