Toimitusajo

Toimitusajo is a Finnish term meaning delivery drive. It describes the act of driving goods or vehicles as part of the delivery process from supplier to customer or destination. In logistics, toimitusajo refers to the route and miles accrued during transport, often governed by contractual delivery terms, schedules, and any mileage limits attached to the delivery agreement. In the automotive industry, toimitusajo commonly denotes the initial driving of a new vehicle during transport from factory or port to a dealer or end user, including any pre-delivery inspections and, in some contexts, a short demonstration drive.

The concept is closely linked to delivery mileage (toimitusajokilometrit). The odometer reading associated with toimitusajo is typically recorded in the vehicle’s documentation and can influence warranty coverage, resale value, or eligibility for certain fleet or tax programs, depending on jurisdiction and contract terms.

Practically, a toimitusajo entails planning the transport route, securing the cargo if needed, complying with vehicle and road regulations, and maintaining records such as delivery notes or transport manifests. In car sales, delivery mileage is sometimes limited to a few tens of kilometers to minimize wear, although acceptable mileage can vary by agreement.
