Timberexport refers to the international trade in timber and wood products, including raw logs, rough-sawn lumber, plywood, veneer, wood pulp, paper, and engineered wood products such as cross-laminated timber. The trade involves multiple stages from forest concessions and logging to sawmilling, processing, and logistics.

The timber export supply chain spans harvesting, processing, value-added manufacturing, and transport. Products range from raw logs and lumber to engineered timber and finished wood goods used in construction, furniture, and packaging.

Global patterns are concentrated in forest-rich regions. Major exporters include Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, the United States, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia, Chile, and New Zealand, with varying emphases on logs, sawn wood, plywood, and pulp.

The timber trade intersects with forest governance, legality and certification. Certification schemes such as FSC and PEFC verify sustainable sourcing. Regulatory measures include due diligence rules, export controls, and trade agreements, while some countries encourage domestic processing through quotas or duties.

Sustainable management, reforestation, and chain-of-custody verification are central to reducing environmental impact. Timber exports can generate rural employment and development, but must balance economic benefits with biodiversity protection and climate goals.

Current trends include rising demand for engineered wood and construction-grade lumber, volatility in commodity prices, and growth of regional processing to add value domestically. Challenges include enforcing legality, market access barriers, and costs of certification and logistics.
