TightBufferKabel

TightBufferKabel is a type of fiber optic cable in which each optical fiber is covered with a relatively thick polymer buffer that is tightly bonded to the glass, and the buffered fibers are surrounded by an outer jacket. This design contrasts with loose-tube cables, where fibers are placed in protective gel-filled tubes and offers different handling and environmental characteristics.

Construction: The fiber core is enveloped by a polymer coating that forms a tight, protective buffer. The buffered fibers may be grouped with strength members such as aramid fibers or fiberglass and enclosed in an outer jacket made of materials like PVC, flame-retardant PVC, or LSZH. The result is a compact, rugged cable intended for direct termination or breakout into individual fiber terminations, depending on the configuration.

Applications: TightBufferKabel are widely used in indoor premises networks, data centers, and in breakout configurations where a single fiber must be connected to a connector or device. They enable straightforward termination with standard fiber connectors and are commonly deployed for short-range links within buildings.

Advantages: Easy termination and direct connectorization, compact termination area, good protection of the fiber at the ends, suitability for short-range links, and cost-effectiveness for installations in controlled environments.

Limitations: They offer less inherent moisture protection than some outdoor designs and are not typically intended for long outdoor runs unless protected; the larger diameter and stiffness can complicate routing in confined spaces.

Standards: They are designed to meet international standards for fiber optic cables and connectors (such as IEC and ITU-T recommendations) and are selected to suit indoor or breakout applications.
