TelnetSSH
TelnetSSH is a term used to describe the practice of securing Telnet sessions by using the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol. It is not a standardized protocol, but rather a collection of techniques and configurations that allow administrators to access devices with Telnet interfaces over an encrypted channel. The idea is to protect credentials and data that would otherwise traverse the network in clear text.
The technical approach commonly involves SSH port forwarding or tunneling. A client connects to an SSH server
Use cases include managing legacy network equipment that only offers Telnet, meeting security policy requirements to
Security considerations: Telnet transmits credentials in clear text; using SSH mitigates transport risks, but Telnet-based devices
Limitations and alternatives: Telnet over SSH does not replace hardening of devices and may introduce complexity.
