Teemaksi

Teemaksi is a Finnish grammatical form of the noun teema, meaning "theme." It is the translative case form used to indicate designation or transformation of something into a theme. Etymology: derived from teema plus the translative suffix -ksi.

Usage: The word is used when stating that something is to be treated as, or has been designated as, a theme or topic. It commonly occurs with verbs such as valita (to choose), asettaa (to set), ottaa (to take up), and muuttua (to become) in the sense of "to become the theme." Examples: "Keskustelun teemaksi valittiin ilmastonmuutos." Translation: "The topic chosen as the theme was climate change." "Tämän tutkimuksen teemaksi on asetettu kestävä kehitys." Translation: "The theme of this study has been set as sustainable development." "Hankkeen teemaksi asetettiin kierrätys ja jätehuolto." Translation: "The project’s theme was set as recycling and waste management."

Notes: The translative case marks a change of state or designation, and teemaksi often appears with passive or impersonal constructions. It is contrasted with teema in the nominative when referring to the theme itself rather than designation as a theme.
