Tarvisio

Tarvisio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Udine, in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, northeastern Italy. It is located in the Canale valley in the Alps, near Italy's borders with Slovenia and Austria. The municipality encompasses the main town and several rural settlements scattered along the valley floor and the surrounding hills, including areas that are used for tourism and forestry. The landscape features Alpine forests and high mountain peaks, with Monte Lussari located nearby and serving as a major winter resort; a cable car connects Tarvisio to the sanctuary of the Madonna di Monte Lussari, a popular pilgrimage site.
