Tarlaghal

Tarlaghal is a rural locality situated in the Zaqi District of Maranzan County in the eastern province of Khorasan. The settlement lies at an elevation of approximately 700 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mixed grassland and low-lying agricultural fields. According to the most recent census conducted in 2016, the population of Tarlaghal was 857 individuals living in 213 households, representing a slight increase from the 799 residents recorded in the 2011 survey.

The economy of Tarlaghal is largely based on subsistence agriculture and livestock rearing. Wheat, barley, and saffron are the principal cash crops, cultivated on small terraces that make use of the region’s seasonal rainfall. Sheep and goats are commonly raised, providing meat, milk, and wool for local consumption and modest trade with neighbouring villages.

Infrastructure in Tarlaghal consists of a primary school, a clinic providing basic medical services, and a community hall that hosts cultural events. The village is connected to the provincial capital by a single paved road that is maintained by the regional government. Public transportation consists mainly of infrequent bus services and shared taxis operated by local owners.

Tarlaghal maintains a number of traditional Shia Islamic customs, including the observance of annual mourning ceremonies during Muharram. Local artisans also produce woven rugs that incorporate motifs typical of the wider Khorasan region, contributing to a modest but vibrant cultural heritage.
