Tantalkondensatoren

Tantalkondensatoren, also known as tantalum capacitors, are a type of electrolytic capacitor. They utilize tantalum pentoxide as their dielectric material. This material provides a high dielectric constant, allowing for a significant amount of capacitance to be packed into a relatively small physical volume.

The construction of a tantalum capacitor typically involves a sintered tantalum pellet as the anode. The dielectric layer is formed by anodizing the surface of this pellet. A solid or wet electrolyte serves as the cathode. Solid electrolyte versions often use manganese dioxide or conductive polymers, while wet electrolyte types use a liquid or gel.

Tantalum capacitors are known for their stability over temperature and frequency, as well as their low leakage current and self-healing properties. However, they are polarized, meaning they must be connected with the correct polarity to avoid damage. They also have a lower surge current capability compared to some other capacitor types, which can lead to failure if subjected to excessive transient currents. Due to their high volumetric efficiency and stable performance, they are commonly found in electronic circuits where space is limited and reliable performance is crucial, such as in power supplies, decoupling applications, and filtering circuits.
