Takasaki

Takasaki is a city in Gunma Prefecture, eastern Japan, located in the Kantō region. It lies in the inland area of Gunma and functions as a regional commercial and transportation hub. The city has historical roots as a castle town around Takasaki Castle, which dates to the Sengoku period.

The climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers and cool winters, and distinct seasonal changes. The surrounding plains support agriculture, while the urban area hosts manufacturing and logistics facilities.

Historically, Takasaki developed during the Edo period as the center of Takasaki Domain under local feudal lords. The arrival of railway lines in the late 19th century spurred urban growth.
