TMIC
TMIC stands for top-mounted intercooler, a heat exchanger used in turbocharged engines to cool compressed intake air. In a TMIC setup, the intercooler core is mounted on top of the engine, typically above the cylinder head, with charge air traveling from the turbocharger through short piping before reaching the intake manifold. The intercooler usually uses an air-to-air core with aluminum fins and end tanks, relying on ambient air flow for cooling as the vehicle moves.
Operation and design considerations: The main purpose of a TMIC is to reduce the temperature of compressed
Maintenance and reliability: Regular inspection of hoses and clamps, cleaning or debris removal from the fins,
Applications: TMICs have been common in certain turbocharged layouts, notably with Subaru’s flat-four engines and other
