Sölden

Sölden is a municipality located in the Ötztal valley in the district of Imst, Tyrol, Austria. It is situated in the upper Ötztal, approximately 86 kilometers southwest of Innsbruck. Sölden is a well-known tourist destination, particularly for winter sports, and is one of the largest ski resorts in Austria.

The ski area of Sölden is renowned for its high altitude, with its skiable terrain reaching up to 3,340 meters. This ensures a long snow season and excellent snow conditions from autumn to late spring. The resort boasts a comprehensive lift system and a wide variety of pistes catering to all levels of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts. Sölden is also famous for its two glaciers, the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers, which offer additional high-altitude skiing opportunities and are typically among the first to open in the season.

In the summer, the Ötztal valley transforms into a popular destination for hiking, mountain biking, and climbing. The area is also known for its connection to the James Bond film "Spectre," which featured scenes filmed at the futuristic Ice Q restaurant at the summit of the Gaislachkogl mountain. Sölden is accessible by car via the Ötztal federal road and by public transport, with the nearest major train station in Ötztal-Bahnhof. The village itself has a vibrant après-ski scene and a good selection of restaurants and accommodation.
