Säkerhetsbrickor

Säkerhetsbrickor, commonly translated as security tags or security labels, are devices used to deter theft in retail environments. They are typically attached to merchandise and trigger an alarm if an attempt is made to remove them from the store without proper deactivation. These tags are an essential component of electronic article surveillance (EAS) systems.

There are several types of säkerhetsbrickor, with the most common being hard tags and labels. Hard tags are reusable plastic or metal devices that are physically attached to items using pins or locking mechanisms. Labels, also known as soft tags, are adhesive stickers that are often hidden within the product packaging. Both types contain a small electronic component that can be detected by antennas at store exits.

When a customer purchases an item, the tag or label must be deactivated or removed by a cashier using a special deactivator or detacher. If an item with an active tag passes through an exit antenna without deactivation, the antenna sends a signal to a receiver, which then triggers an audible and/or visual alarm. This alerts store staff to a potential theft.

Säkerhetsbrickor are designed to be difficult for shoplifters to remove without specialized tools. Their presence acts as a visible deterrent, discouraging potential thieves. The effectiveness of these security measures relies on the proper functioning of the EAS system and the vigilance of store personnel. While primarily used in retail, similar technologies can also be found in libraries and other places where valuable items are kept.
