SÚKL

SÚKL, or the Slovak Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, is a non-governmental organization in Slovakia dedicated to the support and advocacy of individuals with visual impairments. Established in 1990, SÚKL aims to improve the quality of life for its members through various services and initiatives. The organization provides educational resources, assistive technologies, and vocational training to help visually impaired individuals integrate into society and pursue their personal and professional goals.

SÚKL also advocates for the rights and inclusion of visually impaired individuals within Slovak society. This includes lobbying for policy changes, raising awareness about visual impairments, and promoting accessibility in public spaces and services. The organization collaborates with other NGOs, governmental bodies, and international organizations to achieve these goals.

SÚKL operates through a network of regional branches, each serving a specific area within Slovakia. These branches offer a range of services, including orientation and mobility training, low vision services, and support for visually impaired individuals in education and employment. The organization also hosts annual conferences and workshops to share knowledge and best practices among its members and stakeholders.

In addition to its direct services, SÚKL publishes a quarterly magazine, "Svetlo", which provides news, articles, and resources related to visual impairments. The magazine serves as a valuable source of information for visually impaired individuals and their families, as well as for professionals working in the field of visual impairment.

SÚKL is a member of the International Council of Blind People (ICBP) and the European Blind Union (EBU), which allows it to participate in international advocacy efforts and share experiences with organizations from other countries. Through these collaborations, SÚKL contributes to the global movement for the rights and inclusion of visually impaired individuals.
