Subtitle
A subtitle is a textual representation of spoken dialogue and, in some contexts, non-dialogue audio cues that is displayed on screen during video playback. Subtitles translate or transcribe dialogue for viewers who do not speak the original language. Subtitles are distinct from captions, which also convey non-speech information such as sound effects and speaker identification. Subtitles can be open, meaning they are always visible, or closed, meaning they can be turned on or off by the viewer through a player.
