Stresscenario is a defined narrative or structured test designed to evaluate how a system, organization, or process performs under extreme, adverse conditions. The term blends "stress" and "scenario" to describe controlled simulations used to reveal vulnerabilities, resilience gaps, and recovery capacity. Stresscenarios are used across industries to support preparedness, risk management, and decision-making.

Typically, a stresscenario specifies a trigger event (for example, a market shock, cyber intrusion, or natural disaster), the duration and severity, and the cascading effects across people, processes, technology, and facilities. It identifies critical assets and performance metrics, establishes acceptance thresholds, and outlines expected responses and recovery steps.

Constructing a stresscenario involves several steps: define objectives; map critical assets and dependencies; craft a plausible but severe narrative; model operational and financial impacts; specify response actions and escalation paths; determine quantitative and qualitative indicators; and plan an exercise to test decision-making under time pressure. Exercises can be tabletop, simulation-based, or live drills.
