Steuerverdeck

Steuerverdeck is a canopy or cover over the helm area (Steuerstand) on boats, designed to shield the helmsman from wind, rain, and spray while keeping the steering position visible. It is commonly found on motorboats and sailing yachts, and can be part of a larger cockpit canopy or a standalone unit mounted above the steering station. The term is used in German-language boating literature and may be described under different names depending on the manufacturer.

Steuerverdeck constructions vary. They can be rigid or soft-top, fixed or removable, and may be foldable to convert the helm into an open cockpit. Frames are typically aluminum or stainless steel, with glazing made from acrylic or glass, and fabric-covered sections usually use marine-grade PVC-coated canvas or similar materials. It extends the usable season in poor weather, reduces wind chill on the helm, and can provide shade in bright sun.
