Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH, commonly referred to simply as Steinberg, is a German company that develops software and hardware for music creation and post-production. Based in Hamburg, it is best known for its Digital Audio Workstations Cubase and Nuendo, as well as WaveLab, Dorico notation software, and HALion samplers. Steinberg also maintains the VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugin platform, introduced in 1996, which has become an industry standard for audio plugins. The company produces hardware such as USB audio interfaces and MIDI controllers under the Steinberg brand.
