Steadyspeed

Steadyspeed is a proprietary system developed by Jaguar Land Rover for maintaining a constant vehicle speed during descent on steep gradients. It functions as a form of off-road cruise control, allowing the driver to focus on steering and obstacle avoidance rather than modulating the brakes or accelerator. The system typically engages automatically when the vehicle detects a significant downhill slope and the driver has not applied the brakes.

The primary purpose of steadyspeed is to provide enhanced control and safety when navigating challenging descents. By managing the vehicle's speed, it helps prevent unintended acceleration, reduces the risk of skidding or losing traction, and minimizes wear on the braking system. Drivers can usually set their desired speed using a button or a dedicated control.

When activated, steadyspeed utilizes the vehicle's anti-lock braking system (ABS) and engine management to control the speed. It may apply gentle braking to individual wheels or adjust engine torque to maintain the pre-set velocity. The system can typically be overridden by the driver applying the accelerator or brake pedal, or by disengaging the feature through its controls. Steadyspeed is a feature found on many modern Land Rover and Jaguar models, particularly those equipped with advanced off-road capabilities.
