StataIC

StataIC, commonly written as Stata/IC, is the standard edition of the Stata statistical software package. It provides data management, statistical analysis, and graphics for small to medium-sized datasets. The IC designation stands for Intercooled, reflecting its historical position as the entry-level variant within the Stata product line; this contrasts with Stata/SE, which handles larger datasets, and Stata/MP, which adds multi-core parallel processing.

Developed by StataCorp, Stata/IC has been distributed since the early versions of Stata and remains widely used in academia and industry for routine data analysis. It runs on major platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, and supports Stata's command language, do-files, and Mata for matrix programming.

Key capabilities include data management tools (variable creation, sorting, merging, reshaping), a broad suite of statistical procedures (linear and generalized linear models, time-series, survival analysis, panel data methods, nonparametric tests), regular graphical capabilities, and an extendable programming environment with user-written commands.

Limitations of Stata/IC relative to higher editions include restrictions on dataset size and certain advanced features, such as limited support for extremely large data or parallel computation with multiple processors. Users needing larger datasets or more cores typically upgrade to Stata/SE or Stata/MP.
