Formation theories posit condensation from metal-rich gas in stellar winds or supernova remnants, followed by coagulation in expanding ejecta or within accretion disks around newborn stars. Growth mechanisms could involve self-assembly of nano-unit components into larger grains, possibly aided by magnetic or electrostatic interactions.

Applications are speculative, but in theoretical and fictional contexts, stardustand is proposed for lightweight shielding, energy storage, or catalytic roles in interstellar chemistry.
