In cybersecurity, a stager is a small initial payload designed to establish access and prepare a target system for the main malicious payload. Stagers are used to minimize size and maximize stealth, often coordinating with remote servers to fetch the final payload after the initial foothold is established. They may employ obfuscation, living-off-the-land techniques, or legitimate-looking communication to avoid early detection.
